RAF Shawbury re-opens its gates for another weekend of Motorcycle Riding.
Following on from previous year’s popular events which helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity, RAF Shawbury are pleased to announce that the event will run again over the weekend of 27th & 28th of July 2019.
The cost for the event will be
£90 for one day or
£150 for both.
This will get you 6x 20 minute sessions around a revised 2.3 mile circuit utilising the runways and taxiways of RAF Shawbury’s airfield in one of the following groups.
Designed for experienced riders with lots of track experience that are comfortable riding with others at a fast pace.
Aimed at riders confident in their riding and machine control. Comfortable riding in a group situation and riding at a quick pace. Have done some Track days or Circuit events before.
New to circuit based riding and looking to develop their riding skills. Seeking to increase their confidence with riding a variety of corners repeatedly in a safe environment at a steady and controlled pace.
How The Day Runs
The day begins with rider sign on in the race control tent where participants will be given a coloured wristband that corresponds to their group. The next event will be a mandatory riders briefing for all participants which gets you another wristband. Both wristbands will be required for checking prior to circuit entry. After that we aim to get the sessions underway around 0900 with the first group entering the circuit for their initial sighting laps with one of the Instructors. The sessions will run in a cycle of 20 mins for each group before a lunch break, with further sessions in the afternoon.
All new 2019 Layout
The circuit has been changed from previous years, but still offers a variety of challenges to all levels of rider with a mix of wide sweeping bends, long straights and chicanes.
At 2.3 miles long and ridden in an anti-clockwise direction, the new layout aims to provide an exhilarating experience for all levels of rider to expand their skills and maximise their time during sessions.
For 2019 the paddock area is moving to a new location and will be signposted to and from the entrance gate so that it remains easy for participants to come and go, and offer better facilities .
Resources for Riders
The event will be covered by two ambulances from Portcullis Medical. Both crews are fully trained Paramedics and also blue light qualified meaning in the event of a serious injury the rider can be driven straight to Shrewsbury Hospital without delay.
Nick will be supporting the event bringing his range of Airbag vests and Jackets and offering the hire of equipment during the weekend sessions. Mandatory in MotoGP and chosen by the Instructor team the Helite vests offer top level protection for all riding conditions. More information can be found at their website www.lovelifeandride.com/
Stef and Claire from Tyres4Bikes will be supporting the ARD over the weekend with their well stocked support truck offering Tyre and Suspension support. Please contact Stef in advance of the weekend to pre-order tyres, so he can ensure that they are available. A K-Tech & Nitron dealer with many years of experience, they offer a set up service over the weekend to allow you to fine tune your ride. Contact details via their website at http://www.tyres4bikes.co.uk/
The local Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists will be here to cover the road based courses, and associated benefits, that are available to expand your skills and awareness whilst riding on the road. Further details to Follow…
Further Information to follow.
The contract team will be providing food again after the fantastic feedback received from last years event. Breakfast baps in the morning, with a BBQ at lunchtime, as well as hot and cold drinks and snacks, all at competitive prices.
Unfortunately there is no facility for camping on site. There are however some very nice campsites within a 15 minute drive of the airfield which we have added hyperlinks to below in the News section.

If you are thinking about taking part in July but don’t have 1 or 2 piece leathers – don’t worry. You can participate in Motorcycle-specific textile riding gear provided it is zip-together and you have impact protection for the back and joints. This can be fitted to the jacket or trousers, or worn as undergarments and will be checked on the day. Helmets must be full face – no open face of Flip-up helmets.
If you are unsure, get in touch by email (below) and we will answer your questions.
Finally after months of planning and organisation we are in a position to open bookings for the 2019 Airfield Riding Days. Danny has published the information on the Facebook page, so please use the power of Social Media to publicise to others you think may be interested in attending to ensure they get a place in their intended group.
Feel free to ask us questions using the contact button below and please bear with us whilst we get back to you as this is our passionate side project, which we fit in around our day jobs around RAF Shawbury.
